LFQ Is Back! 31 Fresh Starts
P.S. Cardigan dreams, tuna salad gone viral, a laptop bag we actually want, and more
Dear friends,
It is with heavy but optimistic hearts that we write our first letter of 2025. There aren’t sufficient words for our friends in L.A. but their collective strength is urging us to put our best foot forward in the New Year. To be clear, you will get no resolutions here! Rather, these are the things that are inspiring, grounding, and nourishing us right now. Ok fine, some of these are a bit resolution-ish, but we’re not going into the shame cave if we don’t hit all the marks. More evolution than revolution. Here we stand at the top of a new calendar year – humbled, refreshed and ready to GO.
Unabashedly embracing our love of country music.
Not worrying about anything we can’t control like it’s our job.
Eating more surprisingly satisfying vegetarian dinners, like Brown Butter Lentil and Sweet Potato Salad and Radicchio Salad with Giant Croutons.
Shopping our closets.
Then cleaning our closets. One every other month ‘til they’re done throughout the house.
Reading books other than novels and self-help, starting with Doris Kearn Goodwin’s An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s. (Elizabeth)
Reading books, period. (Kate)
Answering the phone when it rings (and isn’t spam). Returning the call if you really can’t get there.
Not sweating someone not texting back immediately.
Responding promptly, even when you don’t know the answer.
Ditto for emails.
Going to bed early instead of watching one. more. episode. (Kate, see #7)
Remembering how delicious smoothies are.
Giving existential assumptions another look. Finding a way to have a conversation with someone about it in earnest.
Becoming football people.
Trading shimmery shadow for matte. Throw caution to the wind!
Watching live news coverage instead of mindlessly scrolling IG.
Drinking less, sleeping better.
Ordering less takeout.
Spending money on massages and facials instead of said takeout.
Increasing the frequency of early morning workouts. The bar is low, but we’re trending in the right direction.
Investing in good socks.
Skipping the impulse to be petty. Choosing another thought instead.
Continuing to Gua Sha.
Doing more puzzles. At home and with friends.
Taking risks in our careers.
Listening to our husbands without assuming we know where they’re coming from—or what they’re going to say next.
Making space for important connections, even if it’s inconvenient.
Sliced, lightly salted cucumbers before dinner instead of dry roasted peanuts.
Being direct.
Ruthlessly clearing out clutter. Mental and physical.
P.S.
Can’t stop thinking about this cardigan (that’s even better in person). Annual gift-to-self—and it’s refillable! We don’t deserve dogs. Obviously we’re going to make this. How about some silk shirt goals? Looks cute with cashmere beanies. Real talk: psyllium husk comes in capsule form?! Dreaming of a new laptop bag. Finding even more reasons to adore Hugh Grant. The best TV show we’ve binged this year. Noah Kahan Live From Fenway Park fixes almost everything. Taking a moment to appreciate Avicii. In case you need an excuse to eat more pizza. Reminded again the Vikings chronic disappointment thing is oh-so-real. Where has this hotel lost & found database been all of our phone charger days? (Thank you, Katie W.!) The fuzzier the better. Duh.
