Dear Friends,
Oh my god, we’ve reached a milestone. LFQ turned one on May 1! Pop the champers! In our first edition, we said LFQ would be our homage to women navigating the issues of the day on her own terms. Well, damn if we haven’t done a lot of that. We’ve talked texting, envy, gifting, clutter, packing, relationships, work—all while playing with our format and questioning whether what we’re up to here delivers on our mission to have worthwhile advice-style conversations on the stuff we deal with and care about.
The past year has turned up a few surprises, affirmed important truths, and given us a vision for what we might want to take on in year two. LFG!
Shockingly, the post with one of the lowest engagements was a beach read book round-up. Honestly it could’ve been the subject line. Good books are good recs even if we know we can’t possibly read them all! We aren’t giving up on this one, so keep your picks coming.
Less shocking, we all love beauty products. Some of the most-clicked posts we did were the Mascara Diaries and New Year, New Beauty. While easy to write off as banal, the ways in which we self-care will always be a prevailing issue of the day. I mean, did you see this new serum-based sunscreen from RMS? Calling our name!
We just might love TV more than books. Like everyone else, we’re currently binging The Four Seasons and processing being so close to that stage in our couplehoods. The other day, Kate suggested to her husband that he might consider arranging the flatware in her preferred way and, let’s just say this “helpful hint” was not accepted. Thank you, Tina Fey, for seeing us, and all the incomparable creative minds for coming into our living rooms.
Speaking of husbands, we’re glad they can write and so are you. It was humbling to share such a personal part of our dynamic, but you welcomed it and them with open arms. There’s more to explore there for sure. Marty suggested we tackle bolder topics and stances, even controversial ones. Hmmmmm. What POVs should we turn to the husbands for next?
According to Substack, you are also avid readers of Brooke Baldwin, Elizabeth Gilbert and Elise Loehnen—three women writers we, too, admire for their authenticity and wisdom. Perhaps Q&As are in order?
Death and grief have a place here. After hesitating to write about our aging pets, fearing it was too heavy, you proved us wrong. Not only was this this most commented on post, but the DMs, texts and emails of empathy and commiseration we received further reinforced that the hard stuff is the good stuff here.
We created and will continue to write LFQ as much for us and for you. If there’s anything you’d like to see us tackle or turn up a notch in year two, please don’t hesitate to drop us a line or leave us a comment.
Thank you for being here and for being you.
Cheers,
Kate & Elizabeth
